Luang Prabang to Vientiane
Day 9
Today we had a flight to Vientiane mid-day so in the morning we took a short walk to the salon nearby called Master Cut in Luang Prabang. I was just going to get a hair cut (basically getting my head shaved, but we found out they do facials, so I joined Tarli and we both got facials. It was quite relaxing and I am glad I got one. Tarli too was pleased with the treatment.

We also had some time to check out the UXO Lao Visitor Center which was just around the corner. This place basically addresses and documents the issues the country has with unexploded ammunition from the Vietnam War. Laos was bombed heavily and is the most bombed country in the world. To this day accidents occur with people, often children accidentally triggering unexploded grenades and bombs. It’s quite sad. This center is akin to a museum in that it displays some of these tragic stories and it also recounts sponsored efforts to find and defuse these live ammunitions.

We left for Luang Prabang Airport after checking out of My Banlao Hotel and it was nice to have the free drop off from the hotel to the airport. We took a small propellor plane to Vientiane. I think the Lao Airlines flight was about 30 minutes long – so it entailed just take off and landing. As a result the plane flew low and. it was nice to be able to enjoy the views of the countryside.

We were back once again at the Crowne Plaza Vientiane. We lounged around and enjoyed the pool one last time,

But the highlight of staying at this hotel a second time was being able to eat at the Three Merchants Restaurant. Once again the food was exquisite and the cocktails were delicious.

This time we didn’t get the Larb! After a week of having it we thought we should mix it up a bit.

Day 10
The breakfast at the Vientiane Crown Plaza was excellent and my favorite part was being able to have the soup – it was just like Pho and you could choose your ingredients. So this morning I had a beef and meatball soup. It did not disappoint.
We were back at the airport to catch our flight to Singapore flying Scoot, Singapore Airlines’ low cost subsidiary. But I managed to have one last Beer Lao at the airport.

What a trip it was to Laos. We loved the sights, the people, the food and so much more. I would go back to Laos. We saw a lot in 10 days, but I feel like there is even more to see.
Both Tarli and I really enjoyed all the towns, but Luang Prabang was probably the best and we were glad we had the most nights (four) there. Stay tuned for the next leg of the trip – Singapore!
