Bali Yoga Retreat Days 2 and 3

We were going to start Day 2 with yoga at 8:00 am but it was raining, so we decided to have breakfast first and yoga later, when the rain would subside.

Our first breakfast at Kashantee Village was so good. Irene and Luba both had the Simple Breakfast (eggs and toast) and I had the Eggs Benedict. They were quite good! After breakfast and coffee, the rain had also sopped so we were able to set up for yoga.

The first yoga class was in a serene setting and it was good for us to move and stretch after our respective long flights here.

After a bit of blogging I went to the restaurant for lunch and had my first local meal – Mie Goreng which translates to Fried Noodles. It was really good! And I had my first Bintag on this trip – a refreshing local pilsner beer

Today was going to be a relaxing day, recovering from our long journeys. So I hit the pool in the afternoon. I had a nice swim and at 4:00 pm we walked a few meters over to Benin Spa for massages. I highly recommend this place. The massage was good, and was very inexpensive. We even got some delicious ginger tea afterwards.

After our massages we went for a walk along the road adjacent to the beach and found a little spot and enjoyed some drinks – I had another Bintang and had Salmon Pappardelle and some Mussels in white wine sauce – they were so good!

Day 3 would start with yoga at 6:30 am. It was a good decision as today would be a long day with a lot of driving. It was also considerably cooler in the morning and so it was quite refreshing and comfortable

After yoga we had a fairly quick breakfast and boarded our car for a whole day tour.

First up was the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud. It took about an hour to get there through all the crazy Bali traffic – but it was so worth it. Not only was it awesome seeing the monkeys in their natural habitat (they are not caged in at all), but the lushness of the forest and the sculptures throughout the region made the place quite magical. Luba and Irene quite enjoyed it and my second time there was just as good as my first.

We spent about an hour walking around the forest and were able to cover the entire forest.

The second stop on the trip was a rice terrace. It was quite scenic and we got to try coffee ranging from Avocado Coffee to Coconut Coffee. We also tried a range of teas, all of which were quite good.

This is more of a tourist thing – going to the rice terraces and going on swings wearing flowy colorful dresses (available for rent). I tried to convince Luba and Irene, but sadly they didn’t go for it 😀. But it was still a nice experience tasting all the different coffees and teas and the place was quite scenic and apt for taking pictures.

Stop number three was high up at about 3,800 ft above sea level. Batur Sari Restaurant was the best place to have lunch and get an awesome view of Mount Batur, the second highest peak on Bali. An active volcano Mount Batur is quite site to behold. I had climbed it in 2020. Unfortunately the area was covered in dense fog and all we saw at lunch was white fog.

We had a nice lunch though. It was a buffet lunch and it was adequate. They had some chicken kebabs, chicken satay, fried rice and noodles that did the job among a few other items. They also had brown rice pudding and fried banana for desert.

We were driving away and within two minutes we noticed that the fog had parted and Mount Batur was now visible. We quickly parked and headed to the side of the road and were so happy that the mountain was now visible . It would have been disappointing to not have seen it. A bonus was that we also got a view of Lake Batur. It was truly quite scenic and a bit mystical shrouded by low lying clouds and fog.

Our fourth and last stop was Tegenungan Waterfall. I had fond memories of going there on my 2020 retreat. Gus and I were the only ones who went into the water and swam – it was so refreshing after a long day of sight seeing. I was hoping to be able to do the same this time.

We got to the waterfall at 4:50 pm with 10 minutes to spare! The last entry is at 5:00 pm. But once in, you can stay until 6:30 pm. We were really having some good luck today. With the clouds parting for us to see Mount Batur and now being able to see the waterfalls (barely making it in time!). We made the most of it. I definitely got a little wet 😀.

We left the waterfall at around 6:30 pm and it took us about an hour and thirty minutes to get back to our lodge. Once back I relaxed in the pool for a bit with a cold drink. It was oh so good!

Bali Yoga Retreat Days 2 and 3 were great. We had a few yoga classes, were enjoying some good food and saw many sites

Now looking forward to what Day 4 brings.

Stay tuned!
